On the morning of 18 April, the School of Marxism held an expert argumentation meeting on the 2024 addition of an undergraduate major in Marxist Theory. The meeting invited Professor Chen Jianbing, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Professor Dong Hui, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism of Shaanxi Normal University, Professor Cao Yu of the School of Marxism of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and other experts from inside and outside of the university to demonstrate the undergraduate major in Marxism Theory declared by the College. Professor Yang Yunxia, Dean of the School, Associate Professor He Miao, Vice Dean of the School, Associate Professor Zhao Haixia, Assistant Dean of the School, and Hou Congrong, from the Planning Office of the Department of Educational Affairs attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, He Miao on behalf of the School of Marxism, thanked the experts for their visit and guidance, and reported on the relevant research carried out by the school in the early stage to add the undergraduate major of Marxist theory. Hou Congrong, Planning Office of the Department of Educational Affairs, briefly introduced the basic situation of the school's current major construction and the basic situation of the new major declaration.
Subsequently, the experts at the meeting focused on the positioning of the university, the construction of disciplines and professional groups, and the actual needs of talents, etc., on the basis of in-depth research on the orientation of talent training goals, talent training programs, and curriculum system construction of each professional, in-depth discussion and comment on the necessity and feasibility of the application, and put forward targeted and constructive opinions and suggestions. Professor Chen Jianbing commented on the training objectives, years of study, curriculum system and other modules in the training plan, pointing out that curriculum construction is the key work in the construction of new majors, and it is necessary to fully consider the characteristics of teachers and standard the National Standards for the Teaching Quality of Undergraduate majors in ordinary colleges and Universities, constantly improve the curriculum system and effectively improve the curriculum quality.
Professor Dong Hui emphasised that talent cultivation is the top priority of adding new majors, which should further clarify the positioning of talent cultivation, condense the cultivation objectives, strengthen collaborative cultivation, and serve the new national strategy and new talent demand. Data support such as employment rate and further study rate were incorporated to support the necessity of the additional major.
Professor Cao Yu emphasised that the establishment of a new undergraduate major in Marxism Theory should be fully integrated with the characteristics of the university and the goal of cultivating "master-type" talents, reflecting the important supporting and leading role of the undergraduate major in Marxism Theory, integrate the general knowledge content of engineering majors into the undergraduate elective courses, and increase the attractiveness of the courses through the cross-fertilisation of disciplines.Hou Congrong from the Academic Affairs Office briefly explained the audit requirements for the declaration of new majors at the school level and put forward suggestions for rectification.
Finally, Yang Yunxia summarised the expert demonstration meeting. She thanked all the experts for their advice for the development of the college and undergraduate professional construction, pointing out that actively declaring new majors is an important initiative for the sustainable development of the college, as well as an important work for the construction of the school. The expert demonstration has strengthened the confidence and determination of the college in declaring new majors, and the college will actively organise forces to adjust and improve the declared materials, take the construction of majors as a hand, clarify the ideas, learn from the experience, condense the practice, and promote the integration of the college's academic disciplines and professional courses to achieve results.
